It seems almost certain that we are heading into an economic downturn. Less clear is what impact the slowdown will have on the legal job market.

No one can say for sure, of course, but it’s worth looking back at past downturns to get a sense of what we can expect moving forward. And perhaps the most important lesson we can learn is, as discussed below, how lawyers can simultaneously withstand a recession, thrive in their current jobs and position themselves for unique opportunities in the future.
