So much about the legal industry has changed since The American Lawyer published its first issue in 1979, and all that change is evident in looking at the financial metrics we began tracking decades ago. Since 1985, when the magazine first published the Am Law 50, eventually expanding to the Am Law 200, the industry has expanded in ways few could have predicted—as have the numbers underlying all that growth. Below, we present a closer look at just how significant that change has been, including some jaw-dropping indicators of an industry gone global.
