Former Federal Trade Commission chair JON LEIBOWITZ, who stepped down from the government post in February, is joining Davis Polk & Wardwell as a partner, the firm announced this week.
Leibowitz, who pushed for privacy and consumer protection while at the FTC, will work on antitrust and privacy issues out of the firm's 26-attorney Washington, D.C., office starting next month. The position is Leibowitz's first at a law firm, something he said he expects to be "new and interesting and challenging" in an interview with Blog of Legal Times.
Before joining the FTC as a commissioner in 2004, Leibowitz worked for the Senate Judiciary Committee and as a government relations executive at the Motion Picture Association of America.

Bracewell & Giuliani is expanding its energy practice in London with four new attorneys from four different firms. BEN JAMES, DARREN SPALDING, and MARTIN STEWART-SMITH will be partners at the firm, and OLIVIA CADDY will be senior counsel. James last worked at Linklaters; Spalding at Allen & Overy; Stewart-Smith at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius; and Caddy at Herbert Smith Freehills.
Earlier this month, energy lawyer KERIN CANTWELL joined Dechert from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. Cantwell, a partner Dechert's Los Angeles office, has advised on project finance and development as well as M&A, particularly in the renewable energy area.
LUKE SOSNICKI has been hired as senior counsel in Dykema Gossett's Los Angeles office, where he is a member of the firm's financial services litigation practice group. Sosnicki previously worked for Nationstar Mortgage.
JOHN ERIKSEN has returned to Epstein Becker Green after spending three years as assistant general counsel at Sutter Health. He will be based in the firm's Washington, D.C., office and will concentrate on its health care and life sciences practice. He will mainly focus on educating his clients about Medicare advantage and prescription drug plans.
Intellectual property firm Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner has expanded its trademark and copyright practice in Palo Alto by hiring MARINA LEWIS as a domain name specialist. She had previously worked at intellectual property boutique Dergosits & Noah in San Francisco.
CHRISTIAN SAMAY has left SNR Denton to join Frommer Lawrence & Haug as an equity partner in New York. Samay is a part of the firm's patent litigation and intellectual property prosecution practices.
Jones Day has added three attorneys to its mergers and acquisitions team in Amsterdam. JOHAN KLEYN has been made a partner, and GERJANNE TE WINKEL and FLORIS PIERIK are of counsel. Kleyn's practice covers takeovers, corporate litigation, and boardroom consulting. The trio joins from Allen & Overy.
In its Pittsburgh office, Jones Day has hired energy attorney DAVID GRECCO as of counsel. He last worked at Steptoe & Johnson, where he also served as of counsel.
Katten Muchin Rosenman UK, the London affiliate of Katten Muchin Rosenman, has grown with the addition of PETER ENGLUND in its banking finance practice. Englund, who recently departed from Olswang, has joined the firm as counsel.
AARTI SHAH has moved to Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo from the International Trade Commission. At Mintz Levin, Shah will be a partner in the firm's intellectual property practice. She is based in Washington, D.C.
Stoel Rives is expanding its Washington, D.C., office with new partner ROGER STARK. Previously with Ballard Spahr, Stark will do work on finance and project development, mergers and acquisitions, public private partnerships, and infrastructure developments within the energy sector.
Sutherland Asbill & Brennan has hired MICHAEL STOSSER in its New York office. Stosser will work as of counsel for the firm's energy group, specifically with its renewable and alternative energy and its liquefied natural gas sectors. He previously worked at Day Pitney as of counsel.
Thompson & Knight has brought on STUART GLICK to the firm's New York office. Glick, a partner, primarily does bankruptcy litigation work. He moved over from Sills Cummins & Gross.
